Mind Control: How does it work?

“If you don’t control your mind, someone else will.” – John Allston. It’s important to understand the mechanics of mind control because the next war that we’ll be fighting is for our thinking and thoughts. In fact, we are already in the throes of that war, only many people are unaware of it. There are several steps to mind control, and this post covers the first.

While it’s been a long time, I studied college student development in graduate school, including William Perry’s cognitive theory of development and Arthur W. Chickering’s theory of identity development. According to both, students and other adults pass through developmental stages during college, or other types of non-formative education programs. When they reach the final stage, they have matured from using black-and-white thinking about a variety of complex issues to recognizing and appreciating a variety of different views.

Controlling another person starts with depatterning, changing his or her thinking pattern. Here’s an example with some people you may know. Before, their thinking pattern was to watch, listen, contemplate, and discuss-debate with you about topics of disagreement. After depatterning and reprogramming, their thinking was reduced to going to an official Fact Checker to find out if what they are reading or hearing is “information” or “disinformation” (common with authoritative rule). In the real world, we have fact, opinion, and speculation, and those who are trying to control this process have blurred the lines. If something has been categorized as disinformation by an “authority” figure,  many people are now programmed to start name-calling and labeling (i.e. conspiracy theorist, anti-vaxxer, trumper, racist, etc.), and terminate the conversation. In addition to calling you names, they may attempt to insult you and beat down your ego.

One strategy they love to use is discrediting (devaluing) people, while avoiding the questions and information those people are providing. Attack the person, not the content, is their methodology for controlling public information. Not a good strategy, unless you’re looking for a war. In fact, it’s exactly the opposite of everything I’ve learned about good communication. Nobody is perfect, and anyone can dig up dirt in your life and twist it to make you into an evil character indeed. But a real communicator will address the content point by point, not dehumanize a person and shun anyone who reads or listens to their ideas. First rule in counseling or any relationship, address the behavior (or content), don’t attack the person. You don’t say “Bad boy!” You say “I don’t like what you did.” You don’t say “You’re stupid!” You say, “You’re a smart guy, but I don’t understand why you think this way about this thing. Can you explain more?” People want to be understood. Do you want to understand or just be right? All people are valuable and deserve to be seen and heard by other people.

Basic Duality is William Perry’s first stage of development for students just starting college; all problems are solvable and the student’s task is to learn the right solutions. It’s not the stage where college graduates are supposed to be at the end of their degree or later in life; yet that’s what we are seeing today. One educated person after another, people we thought were intelligent critical thinkers tearing us down and shutting us out, lumping all of us collectively into one category called “conspiracy,” dehumanizing us, and wanting to strip our right for health care, travel, speech, and on and on. They want dictators to put something in our bodies against our will, something that doesn’t even work the way they said it would, something that could harm us. This is much like the historical Church when it implored the populace to burn books that were associated with evil, which is anything that calls their doctrine into question, or when they executed witches. No doubt, a cohort of educated people are digressing back to basic duality.

A 1988 Washington Post article describes depatterning in its extreme form. Concerning victims of the 1950s mind-control experiments, Lee Hockstader explains, “To break or ‘depattern’ habits and personality traits, Cameron subjected his patients to drug-induced ‘sleep therapy’ for weeks at a time, gave them LSD and administered electroshock therapy at up to 75 times the usual intensity. At the same time, Cameron sought to impel new behavior by having his patients listen to recorded messages, played continuously for days at a time — a practice known as ‘psychic driving.’” This is what I see the mainstream media doing, repeating and repeating and repeating, like a broken record. And constantly changing the narrative. The same applies to CNBC and many other mainstream news programs, catering to what benefits their advertisers and stock holders the most.

I don’t really watch TV much, but I was at a relative’s house one day when I think I experienced some “psychic driving.” She had CNN on the television and they kept repeating, just as I described above, as long as I was there. I could feel my nerves firing; it was a very uncomfortable trance-like state of perpetual anxiety. There is another technique called entrainment, whereby the manipulator establishes a pattern in a person’s mind through rhythm and repetition. I heard a story about a stranger walking behind a man on the street, mimicking his footsteps until the sound of his own footsteps became subliminally entrained in his mind. Then the stranger deliberately made a series of loud missteps, which caused the man to stumble without knowing why. Think about how the media is doing this to scores of people, as the narrative keeps changing. BTW, the mainstream media is not just facts; there’s a whole lot of one-sided opinion in their programming. Do you remember the days when we could listen to a debate?

While this is not mind control per se, it’s the first step in gaining access. When depatterning is taken a step further from the depatterned person to his/her family and friends, it often involves personal attacking and shaming. It attempts to deconstruct the ego by systematically and relentlessly attacking someone’s self-esteem. This overwhelms and disorients, turning off the reasoning mind and opening the subconscious mind in a way that one might describe as being programmable. It is at this stage of depatterning that erases the individual’s natural core personality and makes them seem robotic. Have you noticed that the people in a group on one extreme of an issue all say the exact same things and respond in the exact same way? Void of personality other than sour-angry-bitter attacking?

A plethora of government money went into these programs, and many others like them, and I’m quite certain it wasn’t by some accident. Nor did they repent and come to Jesus because they saw the light and were born again, and care so much about their fellow humans. If you think that you’ve been subject to depatterning, then disconnect from the mainstream regime-controlled media and make a conscious effort to return to a more advanced cognitive stage of thinking. This involves your spiritual self also, because it requires you to lower yourself to the level of others, see them as extensions of a higher power, and stop dismissing everyone who thinks differently than you do.

From this short college study, you will understand exactly how some people have digressed. Whether this has to do with funding received from government and private CEOs is something I cannot say. But we know that you generally don’t bite the hand that feeds you in a financialized world, and we have seen some of the recent coercion taking place at institutions everywhere. Of all the student development theories, I prefer Perry’s cognitive development theory. William Perry outlined how college students and other adults journey through four categories of cognitive development, and nine positions or stages. What’s interesting is these stages are characterized by one’s attitude towards knowledge rather than the knowledge itself. I cannot state it better than this handout does:

  1. DUALISM – There are right/wrong answers known to Authorities. This is where much of Western society is today. How many times have people told me I’m wrong. “You are wrong” is something I hear often, even just asking questions. Yet I don’t proclaim to be right or wrong, just thinking critically, asking questions, and looking for answers. I present what makes sense to me when I piece together a variety of facts and opinions from many different sources.
  2. MULTIPLICITY/SUBJECTIVE KNOWLEDGE – There are conflicting answers; therefore, students must trust their “inner voices,” not external Authority. A lot of people I admire are in this category, which is a good sign. They probably don’t watch and read mainstream news 24/7. They are more humble and don’t see themselves as better or brighter than anyone else.
  3. RELATIVISM/PROCEDURAL KNOWLEDGE – The student has developed disciplinary reasoning methods. Connected knowledge: empathetic (why do you believe X?; what does this poem say to me?) vs. Separated knowledge: “objective analysis” (what techniques can I use to analyze this poem?). Solutions (not only one state-sponsored solution) are supported by reason and rationale, not fear-mongering and mandates. While some solutions may be better, there is not a one-size-fits-all solution here. We make choices and commit to them.
  4. COMMITMENT/CONSTRUCTED KNOWLEDGE – Integration of knowledge learned from others with personal experience and reflection. I’m not trying to prop myself up, but in honest objective analysis, this is where I think I am. I take responsibility for my choices and commitments and also admit mistakes. In the past, I have been manipulated by masters; therefore I am super-sensitive and consciously alert to the manipulator’s techniques.

Where are you on this scale? Do you value other people who are different from you? Or only those who think alike? Do you want to understand people who are different from you? Or do you believe they don’t deserve to be seen and heard? Do you trust your own mind and experience to guide you to the truth in a debate? Or would you rather an authority decide for you? Do you want your views to be supported by something more than a propagandized Fact Checker? Then try.
